PROJECT Create a cartoon pilot.

COMMENTS Katbot is an original cartoon created by Angela Martini and Funny Garbage. Disney commissioned FG to produce a Katbot pilot to be shown to focus groups of 10-12 year olds and based on the results from that test, greenlight a series. I was brought on to oversee the production of the background art. The task of creating the art fell on Ric Farr.

I worked closely with Ric to find inspiration for the look and feel. We both really liked the children's book illustrations of artist Mary Blair, known best for her work at Disney in the 50s and 60s as well as the work of children's book illustrator Art Seiden. I barely had to direct Ric at all because he understood the look so well. I also worked with the director to make sure character actions played well against the backgrounds. In some instances re-coloring the files myself to implement changes. I also designed the logo for the pilot and storyboarded an opening sequence.
